It's 2009 so called world of modernization and after so many wars, protests, deaths, sacrifices we are still looking racism in the face and experiencing it every day. How sad and scary it is that with all the past efforts to eliminate racism, it is still here. Were these past efforts done in vain? It's scary to think, what our children and our children's children and so forth generations will have to go through and experience, because of race....racism! What have or are the leaders of this "great country" doing to eliminate racism...doing nothing. It's obviously not a topic of concern. What if our current leaders were faced with racism everyday...hmm, then I guess it would be a topic of concern. Where are the leaders of today who have a passion to end racism?
Recent attacks on Indians in Australia have caused quite a buzz in media. It is really disturbing that these things have happened. Infact India itself discriminates the most on the basis of skin colours. Indian look their own country people with an eye of racist if they have a dark color. Skin fair creams like FAIR AND LOVELY and many others for both men and women in India sell like hot cakes, everyone wants to be fair . They discriminate on basis of language. We call Chinese as ‘Chinky’. How rude is that. East Indian girls are often mistreated in public buses and even denied entries in Five Star hotels. So Guys, rather than blaming other countries and other white people, we should check ourselves and take the responsibility to bring change in our own country. If we respect each other and accept their differences, then only we can make the world respect us.
I want to share a recent incidents happened and wanted to THANKS and say WELL DONE to BRITISH AIRWAYS and OPRAH WINFREY for showing their positive attitude against RACISM.
It’s a scene took place on British Airways flight between Johannesburg and London.
A White woman, about 50 years old, was seated next to a black man. Obviously disturbed by this, she called the air Hostess. ‘Madam, what is the matter,’ the hostess asked.
‘You obviously do not see it then?’ she responded. ‘You placed me next to a black man. I do not agree to sit next to someone from such a repugnant group. Give me an alternative seat.’ ‘Be calm please,’ the hostess replied. ‘Almost all the places on this Flight is taken. I will go to see if another place is available.’ The Hostess went away and then came back a few minutes later.
‘Madam, Just as I thought, there are no other available seats in the economy class. I spoke to the captain and he informed me that there is a seat in the business class. All the same, we still have one place in the first class.’
Before the woman could say anything, the hostess continued: ‘It is not Usual for our company to permit someone from the economy class to sit in the first class. However, given the circumstances, the captain feels that it would be scandalous to make someone sit next to someone so disgusting.’
She turned to the black guy, and said, Therefore, Sir, if you would like to, please collect your hand luggage, a seat awaits you in first class. At that moment, the other passengers who were shocked by what they had just witnessed stood up and applauded.
The second incidents happened between Tommy Hilfiger and Oprah Winfrey an American media personality.
I am sure many of you watched the recent taping of the Oprah Winfrey.
Show where her guest was Tommy Hilfiger. On the show, she asked him if the statements about race he was accused of saying were true.
Statements like`...`If I`d known African-Americans, Hispanics, Jewish and Asians would buy my clothes, I WOULD NOT have made them so nice. I wish these people would *NOT* buy my clothes, as they are made for upper class white people` .
His answer to Oprah was a simple `YES’ . Where after she immediately asked him to leave her show .
My suggestion? Don`t buy your next shirt or perfume from Tommy Hilfiger. Let`s give him what he asked for. Let`s not buy his clothes, let`s put Him in a financial state where he himself will not be able to afford the ridiculous prices he puts on his clothes. BOYCOTT.
I wish every mother could let their child know that they belong to the human race. Every parent should teach their children the importance of their race, no matter what is portrayed. I am an Indian and PROUD to be an Indian. Black people are admired in so many ways and have no reason to worry about their culture, or the color of their skin. So FRIENDS, always try to teach children and your family members to treat others EQUALLY. Don't judge on color, religion, sexual preference, etc.
